Paskelbta gripo epidemija
2011 m. sausio 17 d. Kauno miesto savivaldybės administracijos direktoriaus įsakymu Kauno mieste paskelbta gripo epidemija. Taip siekiama sustabdyti gripo viruso plitimą.

Epidemijos metu gyventojams rekomenduojama:
• Saugotis peršalimo ir sergančių miestiečių;
• Pasirinkti šiam metų laikui tinkamus drabužius bei apavą, daugiau būti ore, valgyti daugiau vaisių, daržovių;
• Saugoti imuninę sistemą grūdinantis, naudojant liaudies medicinos priemones: česnaką, ežiuolės, imbiero preparatus, vitaminą C, medų;
• Gerai vėdinti ir drėgnu būdu valyti patalpas (ypač jei jose gyvena, dirba ar lankosi daug žmonių);
• Dažnai plauti rankas;
• Vengti masinių susibūrimo vietų, nesant būtinybei nesinaudoti viešuoju transportu, geriau vieną kitą stotelę nukulniuoti pėstute;
• Pasirinkti individualias laisvalaikio praleidimo priemones;
• Vengti kontakto su sergančiaisiais, nuo kosinčio ar čiaudinčio kolegos pravartu pasitraukti nors per metrą;
• Darbuotojams, kurie dėl darbo pobūdžio gali platinti virusą ar juo užsikrėsti, pavyzdžiui prekybos centrų kasininkams, rekomenduojama dirbant ryšėti vienkartines kaukes;
• Pasireiškus pirmiesiems susirgimo požymiams, sergantįjį (pagal galimybes) izoliuoti nuo sveikųjų;
• Vienintelė efektyviausia priemonė nuo gripo yra skiepai, jeigu dar nesuspėjote pasiskiepyti, turite paskutinę galimybę tai padaryti. Pasiskiepijus jau užsikrėtusiam gripu ar užsikrėtus iš karto po skiepo, skiepas nuo ligos neapsaugos, bet ir nepakenks, o po 2 savaičių jau bus susiformavusi pakankama apsauga nuo visų trijų gripo viruso tipų.
 
Susirgus rekomenduojama:
• Nesigydyti patiems, kreiptis į medikus dėl gydymo paskyrimo;
• Slaugant ligonį, nosį ir burną dengti vienkartine kauke ir ligoniui, ir sveikajam;
• Naudoti daug skysčių, geriau su vitaminu C;
• Kuo dažniau plauti rankas, ypač aptarnavus ligonį ir prieš valgį;
• Sergančiųjų vaikų neleisti į vaikų kolektyvus bei lankyti sergančių draugų;
• Kosėjant ir čiaudėjant, užsidengti burną ir nosį vienkartine nosine arba rankove (geriausiai alkūnės linkyje). Jei prisidengėte burną ir nosį delnu, tuojau pat nusiplaukite rankas.

Tinkamai saugantis galima išvengti peršalimo ligų, tačiau geriau būti dar ir pasiskiepijus sezoninio gripo vakcina.
