Pagal iki šiol galiojusias normas tiek kaimo vietovių, tiek didžiųjų šalies miestų  mokyklų visuomenės sveikatos priežiūros specialistams buvo priskirta po 1000 moksleivių. Pakeitus tvarką  gyvenamosiose vietovėse, turinčiose  mažiau kaip 3 tūkst. gyventojų, šis normatyvas mažinamas perpus, vieno visuomenės sveikatos priežiūros pareigybė rekomenduojama 500 mokinių. 
Pagal naująją tvarką mokykloms iš Privalomojo sveikatos draudimo fondo biudžeto (PSDF) bus skiriama du trečdaliai moksleivių sveikatos priežiūrai reikalingų lėšų, likusiomis turės pasirūpinti steigėjas. Iki šiol visas lėšas skirdavo PSDF.    
Preliminariais skaičiavimais, pakeitus normatyvus, vaikų sveikata regionuose rūpintųsi daugiau visuomenės sveikatos priežiūros specialistų: 2008 m dirbo 569  specialistai, 2010 jų skaičius išaugtų iki 637-ių. Privalomojo sveikatos draudimo fondo biudžeto išlaidos, padidėtų nuo 9,47 mln. litų 2008 metais  iki 11,7 mln. litų  2010-aisiais.
Nutarimas įsigalios nuo 2010 m sausio 1 d.
