Kaune kuriamas Sveikatos mokslų universitetas
Kauno medicinos universitetas ir Lietuvos veterinarijos akademija pradėjo jungimosi procesą ir 2010 m. rugsėjo 1 d. pradės naujuosius mokslo metus kaip vienas Sveikatos mokslų universitetas.

Reorganizuotų universitetų naujoji aukštoji mokykla orientuosis į biomedicinos mokslo srities studijas, teikiančias aukštos kokybės universitetinį išsilavinimą.

Universitetų pertvarkai – šiuolaikinei laboratorinei įrangai pirkti, auditorijoms modernizuoti, patalpoms atnaujinti, Visuomenės sveikatos fakulteto pastatui statyti iš ES paramos fondų skiriama iki 50 mln. Lt. Sveikatos mokslų universiteto studijų programos papildomos socialinių ir humanitarinių mokslų kryptimis, pertvarkoma valdymo struktūra, bendrai formuojamos katedros.

Universitetas parengs naujas, tarpdisciplinines studijų programas, vykdys plataus masto tarptautinius mokslinius projektus, glaudžiai integruodamas studijas, mokslą ir klinikinę praktiką.
