Apskričių perimtom funkcijoms įsteigtas departamentas
Švietimo ir mokslo ministerija, perimdama apskričių švietimo įstaigų priežiūros funkcijas, priėmė ir dalį buvusių šių padalinių specialistų. Naujai steigiamame Švietimo kokybės ir regioninės politikos departamente dirbs 28 darbuotojai iš 90 dirbusių apskričių švietimo įstaigose.

Šis ministerijos padalinys bus atsakingas už švietimo politikos vykdymą regionuose, teiks išvadas, ar esami teisės aktai atitinka mokyklų veiklos ir moksleivių ugdymo poreikius, taip pat palaikys ryšius su užsienyje veikiančiomis mokyklomis, kuriose mokoma lietuvių kalbos arba mokymas vyksta lietuvių kalba.

Pasak švietimo ir mokslo viceministro Vaido Bacio, naujajam departamentui keliamas uždavinys ne tik prižiūrėti ugdymo procesą, bet ir gilintis į problemas, kurios būna nevienodos skirtingose Lietuvos savivaldybėse. „Kad galėtume tobulinti ugdymo politiką, turime remtis regionų švietimo specifiką išmanančių specialistų patirtimi. Kartu skatinsime, kad šie žmonės, liksiantys dirbti buvusių apskričių centruose, taptų mokyklų pagalbininkais bendradarbiaujant su ministerija“, - sako V.Bacys.

Naikinant apskritis Švietimo ir mokslo ministerija savo žinion taip pat perims konservatorijas ir menų gimnazijas, socializacijos centrus, Rytų Lietuvos mokyklas.
